Steps of Changing a Car Oil Filter
Time: 2009-02-18
By S. Baselice
Step1. Open your hood and search for your oil filter. Most cars have an oil filter close to the engine block, either on the side of the engine or below it. If the filter is below the engine you may need to get your car on a hoist or jack.

Step2. Locate the oil filter, and then find the oil drain cap.

Step3. Slide a drain pan under the oil drain cap and remove the cap using the right size socket wrench. Drain out all the oil.

Step4. Move the oil pan under the oil filter if necessary. Use a socket wrench to remove the oil filter bolt. Be careful not to destroy or damage the gasket or other engine parts.

Step5. Remove the oil filter and then place the new filter in its place.

Step6. Slide the bolt back into place (or attachment accessory) and tighten using a wrench.
