How to Clean your car's air filter safely and effectively

Improve gas mileage, bring back horsepower, and improve the overall running of your car, truck, suv, or bike!

First, you need to locate your air filter on your car. It is usually in a black plastic box with some clips holding it closed, under your hood by the engine. You will usually not need any tools to get to the air filter. Once located, pull the air filter out of the box and hold it up to some light. A new filter will allow the light to shine right through, whereas a dirty filter will block the light.

Take the degreaser (simple green works great) and dilute in a bucket with some warm water. Place filter in the diluted solution of degreaser and let sit for 15 minutes.

Take filter out of the solution and allow to dry thoroughly (at least an hour). You want to make sure that the filter is completely dry or it can damage your engine.

Place filter back in the car and enjoy the regained power and improved gas mileage. If you have the K&N filter cleaning kit, it will also tell you to put the included oil around the filter rim to create a seal.
In my experience with tuning cars, this is usually not necessary.
